Have you ever heard about the “Urban trekking activity”?
It is a new way to discover historical centres and their “green surroundings”!
If you would like to enjoy Bologna in an unusual way “as the Italians do”, you cannot miss that private tour, which combines art, health, sport activity, amazing panorams and tasty food
You will meet your private licensed tourist / hiking guide in Bologna, in order to appreciate the city, thanks to an easy urban trekking tour that will climb to one of its surrounding hills from Bologna historic center: Colle della Guardia. You will walk along the arcades of Via Saragozza as far as you will reach its homonymous gate, one of the three city walls.
From there the arcades become homogeneous and rich in charm: with their 3.5 km, candidates as Unesco World Heritage Site, they are the longest in the world and characterized by 666 arches, each of them is marked by a progressive number, together with dedications, epigraphs and ex-votos of those who have financially supported either the construction or the restoration of that devotional path.
A drop of little more than 200 meters of the route separates Bologna from the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca, one of the most famous Italian pilgrimage destinations as well as a traditional Sunday stroll of Bologna inhabitants. The religious building was born from the request of a Bolognese well-off woman to the Pope to build a place of worship for the famous icon of the Madonna of San Luca a pious pilgrim carried in late XIII century. After that you have got there, the guide will show you the artistic and architectural beauties of the Basilica and you will climb the dome for a 180 ° view of Bologna and its hills.
On your way back, you will stop at a characteristic place for a tasting based on typical “piadine” from Romagna and “tigella” from Modena, Mortadella and other Emilian cold cuts, Parmigiano Reggiano and other kinds of cheese, a bowl of fried Bolognese tortellini, everything served with a glass of wine (either Lambrusco or Pignoletto) or a bottle of craft beer.
The meeting point with the hiking/ tourist guide will be at Nettuno Square in Bologna in front of the statue.
In case the Client’s accommodation is distant from the historical centers or if you come from other departure places, different meeting points will be communicated after the confirmation of the tour.
