The highlights of Gardone Riviera and Salò on Lake Garda

If you consider yourselves artlovers, you cannot miss this full-day tour on Lake Garda, which will allow you to discover two wonderful places: the eclectic house-museum where Gabriele D’Annunzio lived and kept his unusual art collection, and the elegant lakeside village of Salò, where you will enjoy a pleasant stop to sip a local drink, made of the famous yellow local citron.

Meeting with an English-speaking driver at Sirmione or Desenzano del Garda. Transfer to Gardone Riviera by private car/minivan. Meeting with a private tourist guide for a visit to the “Vittoriale degli Italiani”; nowadays a house-museum, it was the last residence of the well-known poet and writer Gabriele D’Annunzio, who started its renovation in 1921, after his political enterprise in Fiume, during the First World War. The mansion is located in a hillside estate overlooking the lake, an impressive and astonishing location for this majestic monument, which D’Annunzio built to celebrate himself as a man of literature and a soldier.

Transfer to Salò by private car/minivan. Time at your leisure for lunch. A pleasant walking tour through its historical centre, in order to admire its sophisticated buildings, among which you can enjoy Magnifica Patria Palace, built in 1542 and XV-century Santa Maria Annunciata church. Salò reached international fame during the last years of the Second World War, when Hitler and Mussolini decided to found the Italian Social Republic, whose headquarters were allocated to different villages and in different buildings along that shore of the lake. Guided tasting of the well-known Cedrata Tassoni at an art-nouveau style bar. From the Cytrus Medica (Citron) of Lake Garda, that famous traditional syrup has been the most favorite drink since 1793. It has got an original delicate flavor and an incomparable zesty freshness. Back to Sirmione or Desenzano del Garda by private car/minivan.
