WORLD CHEESE AWARDS: Parmigiano Reggiano is multi-awarded a prize

Parmigiano World Cheese Award

Did you know that there is a kind of national “team” of Parmigiano Reggiano?

On the occasion of the latest edition of the World Cheese Awards, which has taken place in Bergamo this year, an international jury has awarded a prize to almost the 60% of the dairies entered into competition with one another by awarding the Cheese King the historic record of 110 medals, among which 4 Supergold medals (the best cheese on the table), among the 3,804 participants.

This year the National Parmigiano Reggiano Team – composed of 86 dairies coming from all the provinces of the area – has been the greatest collective mission an Italian cheese has ever undertaken abroad. The overwhelming victory vanished after the head-to-head between Parmigiano Reggiano 25 months of the Dairy Santo Stefano of Parma and the Blue Cheese Rogue River Blue of some young farmers from Oregon. Both of them got the top marks of the jury during the final (100 marks) but their par requested the intervention of the president – Mr Nigel Barden, a BBC compère – who awarded the prize to the American homemade cheese after his second tasting.
The next edition is taking place in Oviedo, Spain, from 4th to 7th November 2020.
